New kurikara sword pic 2 by Dekokatana New kurikara sword pic 2 by Dekokatana
New Kurikara sword and it have been sented to new owner about week ago. Basicly same kind of sword as first kurikara mabde by me. Little changes still can be found. I made smaller "pearl" for the tsukas cord this time as that first one felt too big for my taste.

Have you worked with wood before? All what I can say, that plan it well before starting to make those pieces. Think about how those pieces are put together and tools you got in there. Usin metal is little bit different than using wood but base idea is the same. Plan it well, measure pieces twice, cut only once.. Think about next few steps while doing even base level shaping, there will be some problems what you have to deal with and that is part of the fun.

Remember, if you mess up, try again as many time it's needed. You learn every time something new and you need to respect and understand the material what you are using. After that, you can do almost anything from it.

You might hoped more tutorial kind of advices, but those I can't give so much as I don't know what kind of tools you have and how much you have worked with wood, but planning is the key. Do that well and everything else will follow.

this is really helpful, I appreciate it. I'm actually starting with an already made wooden katana that I got at a con last year and up until now have had no use for. I've begun working on templates for the various pieces and it;s going pretty well so far. I really enjoy your work and hope that one day I may be able to match you in skill haha.

let me save up some money for it and a new home shall be given to that piece of art. Just to be sure: the blade is dull right? because I'd like the sword as a piece of art and not a weapon.

It takes usually around 4-5 weeks to make one of these, maybe less when I have some parts half ready and waiting to be used.

But you don't have to wait 4-5 weeks + shipping time (around 2 weeks from EU to US), as I have one Kurikara ready and waiting for it's new owner. It's last one what I have. It's on my "for sale" -list on front page and lot's of other items too :)

Length is almost 110cm in total. Tsuka's length (with Fuchi/Kashira-gane parts) is 35 cm. Other measures I can't remember at the moment. Last Kurikara sword what I have, is at the moment in "long term storage", until someone claims it and buy it from me.

That is a beautiful sword,I like the way the scabbard gets a little larger at the end,and the guard is unique to its own. I wish i could add this to my collection.

Thing is, that I have one Kurikara on my wall, just waiting that original client would get the money together. I have given last date 31.5.2013 when that Kurikara sword is reserved for her and after that I sell it for who ever gives me the money. Kurikara have been waiting around 4 months for shipping. :)

Lol you took me seriously. I was kind of kidding, I likely couldn't afford something like this without using up a full paycheck. Even so, that doesn't change the fact that I STILL WANT IT. XD

No worries. This might be a dumb question, but is that wood of metal? And how much would you sell one for (if you made another of course)

I can make new one within 4-6 weeks, as my working hours are limited. Maybe faster if someone needs it.
